Maria is simply the best. We normally live in the Bay Area, and this was our second home purchase in the Desert with her. Even with 7 or 8 years in between purchases, she's kept up with us the whole time, and when it was time to get serious about purchasing a more permanent place, there was no question that we would turn to Maria for help. It's not often that you meet someone who still knows the value of building and maintaining long-term business relationships, and not only did that approach bring us back to her as clients, but she was able to bring her network to help us when it mattered.
I wouldn't exactly describe us as easy clients. Between the two of us, we are pretty picky, super detail oriented, business savvy, and not at all afraid to ask questions to ensure we fully understand all the details of the transaction that are important to us. Maria patiently showed us house after house after house across the spectrum of possibilities until we were able to narrow down our parameters and find the perfect home for us. In a very hot market where it is easy to overbid, she helped us look at the value of the property critically and rationally, gave us great advice on devising our offer strategy, and expertly guided negotiations to a point that allowed both seller and buyer to walk away happy with the outcome. During the escrow and close process, she worked hard every day to help track down answers to our million and one diligence questions and keep the process on track. So that was the easy part of the transaction...
Thanks in large part to our highly disorganized lender, who constantly overpromised and underdelivered, our escrow and close process started to fall apart, to the point where we refused to release contingencies on time and were ready to walk away from the deal. It was in these moments that Maria's experience and professionalism really shined. I'm sure she was under an immense amount of pressure from the seller and seller's agent to get us to move things along, but never once did she make us feel rushed or feel like our concerns were not valid. Instead she kept the sellers at bay and allowed us the space that we needed to deal with the emotional roller-coaster that our lender put us through and get comfortable with moving forward. Moreover, she listened to our concerns and reasons for not feeling confident in the lender, and this is where the strength of her local relationships really helped save the day. Since it was a local lender, she was able to leverage her relationship with them to put pressure on our lending agent to get his act together and get us across the finish line, even checking in with him daily to make sure he was doing what he needed to do. Ultimately, we ended up closing largely on time, and I have no doubt that we would not have gotten there at all without Maria's efforts.
We think that we're finally in our forever home, but if it turns out that we need to buy or sell again, there's no doubt that our first call will be to Maria!
